History: Believed to have been the port used by Sir Francis Drake in the seventeenth century and the place where the English privateer hid one of his most treasured works, but Drake is best known for being one of the main tourist destinations and more remote Costa Rica. The people of Agujitas (Drake), where approximately 1,000 people reside, they main its economy on tourism.

The sea and the Sierpe River, which passes in an efficient boat service and a small airstrip, are the only means of communication during the rainy season. There are miles and miles of wonderful coastline with rocky cliffs and sandy coves that extend from Agujitas Bay (where Drake is located) toward the edge of the Corcovado National Park, which be approximately at a distance of 12 miles to the south. Drake Bay is home to fishing enthusiasts and nature lovers. It is also the starting point for many other adventures in the South Pacific of Costa Rica. Diving near Caño Island for example or a wonderful experience that will allow you to see an incredibly diverse marine life and an amazing underwater landscape. From September to January this area is the destination of humpback whales which you can view with the dolphins in one of many tours. Corcovado has a huge biodiversity that is still preserved due to its remoteness and the fact that most National Park suffered minimal impact in the past
